Sonia Dezius

Sonia's yoga journey is always unfolding....

I took my first beginners yoga course in 1995 when I was 18 years old. I remember falling asleep in savasana every single time! But the seed was planted.

During my years at University, and extensive overseas travelling, the yoga seed grew and my spiritual longing lovingly flourished. Motherhood and building a home sent my roots down in beautiful Denmark in 2007. At this time yoga became a regular practice and a passion, it gave me a way to understand the world and my place in it. Going beyond a physical exercise, I became more attentive to how I live and relate to others; to my connection to Self and the Earth. It is now my 'blue-print' for living a vital and centred life.

Though I will always be foremost a humble and grateful student, I am now a committed teacher, facilitating regular yoga classes in Denmark since 2015.

I have gained inspiration from the teachings of the Zen-Thai Flow of Gwyn Williams, in which I completed a Facilitators course in Bali, 2017.  The Critical Alignment offerings of Graeme Hodges, whom I practice with regularly here in Denmark. I completed a certified teacher training in Bali with Les Leventhal in 2014.

I completed online studies in 2021/22 in SATYA  (Sensory Awareness Training for Yoga Attunement) with Tias and Surya Little of Prajna Yoga, an immersive journey into fascia, mindfulness, somatics.

I am a qualified Remedial Massage Therapist with 20 years clinical experience. Integrating Myofascial release, Five Element Acupressure, TuiNa and Western remedial techniques.

For several years I have been a meditator in the somatic practices taught by Dr Reginald Ray and the Dharma Ocean lineage. These rich offerings steep my own practice and also guide what I teach to students, in the vast, boundless ocean of the Soma.

I'm also inspired by Taoism, poetry, ritual process and women's cycles.

Perhaps my greatest teachers are my two teenage children who bring the daily opportunity to stay fully present and to practice santosha (contentment). I became a certified Kids and Family Yoga teacher in 2015 with Rainbow Kids Yoga.

The dream of owning a dedicated space to teach yoga in Denmark was realised in 2018, partnering up with the wonderful Sumer Addy, we opened the Denmark Yoga Centre, the space is so beautiful on so many levels, that I often have to pinch myself that its no longer a dream!

Sonia’s classes aim to bring elements of flow, breath, meditation, and alignment into a balanced sequence, offering variations and help with use of props, and occasionally some gentle adjustments so every body can benefit.
